History

The Department of Biology at Chiang Mai University was established in 1964 with the University’s founding. At first,there were four faculty members and two supporting staff. At the time of founding, the department offered a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and basic biology courses to non-major students. We congratulated the first cohort of nine graduates in 1968. Since that time, the department has expanded and developed its biology curriculum. Now there are 8 programs ranging from undergraduate to doctoral degrees in several disciplines in biology.
